PC harddisk performance, backup and restore
62Simple hard disk partition suggestions for a better PC performance, backup and restore
The main reasons for disk partitioning:
If you have different partitions you may have dual or triple booting operating systems, meaning that you may carry different operating systems on different partition.
And if you have one operating system such as WINDOWS and you have different partitions you may carry different filesystems such as FAT32 and NTFS. This is good for security purpose.
And if you have one operating system such as WINDOWS and you have 3 different partitions you may carry:
- 1) First partition for operating system only.
- 2) Second partition for applications only.
- 3) Third partition is for personal or other data.
Having this type of partitions makes it easier and faster to have partitions backup and restore such that the entire partition can be backup to a single tape and restored to the particular partition.
It is better to keep your own things separate from the software installed from a distribution for easy reinstallation or uninstall without losing your data.
But for better performance, it is better to have few physical hard disks with few partitions rather than one logical hard disk with few partitions.
